I created a new page template for my static front page. I renamed it landing-page template. It is basically a blank white page with 2 images to link to different parts of my blog. In “pages” it previews how I want it to, but when I try to change that page to be the static front page the theme doesn’t recognize it and keeps the current home page as is.

Do I need to rewrite over the front-page.php?

    Help please.

    Hello,

Please go to Settings -> Reading and Under Front Page option. Select the page you created and applied your template. That way your page will be visible as front page.

    Thanks!

Use child themes, and add You own front-page.php file to “child themes dir”.

The widgets section will be shown as kept in the Front Page Widget sections. After that, you will have the choice of showing the latest post or static post. Also for this to be featured in the front page, please visit Appearance->Customize->Design Options->Front Page Settings section and uncheck the checkbox saying ‘Check to hide blog posts/static page on front page’.
We will really appreciate if you could help us too by rating our theme in WordPress repo here:-

    @ Bishal

That’s not what I was really asking about. I know those options are available. I’m asking about make one of my pages as the “front page” or “landing page” for my site. Then I want the current “front page” to be /home. I have tried to change it in the customize settings but it isn’t working.

First of all, you need to enable the front page to display the latest post/static page. Then, you need to visit Settings->Reading->Front page displays section and set your static page there.
Note: The widgets above will also be seen, but if you do not want to use the widget there, then, create the child theme and make changes accordingly as requirement.
    Thanks.

Please do tell in more detail on the page title issue. Since, we do not see any page title in your site, which is lonely and static front page is also not seen. Thanks.
