in Settings->Reading and in options “Blog pages show at most” I set a certain number of posts, but the homepage still shows more posts than it was set.
How can I fix this problem?

Can you provide us URL of your website so that we can inspect it and give you a proper solution?

thank you for your reply. In the backend of WP we set 4 as the maximal amount of posts. Here’s the frontend which shows more than for posts: http://www.italianstylehandtaschen.de

After inspecting your site, we found that you’ve assigned some posts as sticky which means that those post must be seen at first page.
So, if you’ve sticky posts, try making them un-sticky by unchecking “Stick this post to the front page” on post edit screen.
If the issue still persists, please let us know.
